The development of science led to the appearance of many new fields like nanobiotechnology, biosensors, biomaterials etc. Once we start to study these disciplines it is evident that the basic sciences of biology, chemistry and physics all merge and are essential for the understanding of processes at this level. Therefore, we encourage our students to develop a profound knowledge of all these disciplines. From the molecular perspective chemistry and biochemistry have a special place in genetics and bioengineering since proteins are the final product of gene expression and they can be analyzed through chemical/biochemical procedures. Chemistry is also of great importance in courses like biomaterials in which the students create and test various materials such as plastic.
With this in mind the GBE department established the Chemistry and Biochemistry laboratory that is equipped to meet the needs of all experiments carried out in general chemistry, organic chemistry and biochemistry.
